Happy 60th to Us!

Radio Wey marked its 60th anniversary with a week of celebratory shows, culminating in a lively four-hour broadcast at the ASPH NHS Trust’s annual Open Day on July 19, 2025.

It was a jam-packed day full of appearances from Radio Wey members, past and present. Each hour of our live show from the hospital reception was hosted by a different presenter or duo:

Pete Bray kicked things off from 11am to 12 noon. From 12 noon until 1pm, it was Matt Ritchings and Warren Fox. 1pm to 2pm featured the mad duo that are Chris Hussey and Gayle Naylor. Finally, from 2pm to 3pm, chairman Marc Bakos and Maria Lopiano wrapped up the broadcast; who were privileged to hand one of our longest serving members, Jim Coombe, who has been with the station for 55 years a long service award!

It was such a pleasure to see so many different faces, including a surprise visit from Victoria Derbyshire of BBC Newsnight.

Our Radio Wey members were fantastic, recording interviews of all the Open Day activities while handing out leaflets recognizing our 60th year and encouraging visitors to download our new app for live listening on the go. We even brought along some fantastic branded cupcakes, which went down a treat!

A big thanks to ASPH for hosting us in the reception area — it was a blast. We look forward to covering next year’s Open Day, but in the meantime, Radio Wey’s 60th celebrations continue. Download the Radio Wey app today from the App Store or Google Play to join the fun and catch our upcoming specials!
